Invitations to the Russian Federation
Foreign citizens who arrive in the Russian Federation can be divided into two categories: those who arrive through visa-free regime and those who need a visa to stay in Russia. The first may stay in Russia no more than 90 days (depending on the citizenship), for the second the period of stay is limited by the term of the visa validity.
Depending on the purpose of visit, an invitation for a foreign citizen should be executed, based on which a visa is given by an RF consulate in the country of their residence. The invitation has data about the invitee, the receiving party, periods and purposes of the visit.
Upon termination of the visa validity a foreign citizen must leave the country, and the receiving party execute a new invitation for a foreign citizen, if necessary. Only in certain exceptional cases state authorities may extend the visa validity.
An invitation for a foreign citizen may be executed by an RF citizen or by a legal entity registered in Russia.
